A high standard of general and specialist medical care is available in Cayman, both through the state system and by private practitioners and facilities.
Through its Public Health Department, the Government also runs Health Centres in each of the districts, and conducts health programmes including immunisation, genetics and nutrition.
A wide range of specialists, including visiting doctors from the US and elsewhere, operate from private clinics. Grand Cayman is well served by private dentists and optometrists.
A mandatory health insurance law became effective on 1st July 1997. This requires all residents to have minimum private sector health insurance to cover basic medical expenses, with the premium shared evenly between the employee and employer.
There are two full service hospitals on Grand Cayman and one on Cayman Brac.

The Cayman Islands Hospital, the principal health care facility in the country, is a modern, 139,066 sq. ft., two-storey facility with 124 beds. Located in the Islands' capital of George Town on Grand Cayman, it offers accident and emergency services; a wide range of surgical services; a Critical Care Unit, physiotherapy; a pharmacy; a central sterilisation unit; and laboratory services, including a state-of-the-art forensic unit - along with many other facilities a person would expect in a modern health care setting. There are four operating theatres; a dialysis unit; oncology unit; X-ray; morgue; and a forensic and drug testing laboratory. Other facilities include: outpatient specialist clinics, administrative offices, a professional library and a modern high-tech electronic health information management section. Specialist services are available in the fields of: surgery, gynaecology & obstetrics, paediatrics, internal medicine, dermatology, anaesthesiology, public health, orthopaedics, psychology, cardiology, gastroenterology, psychiatry, rheumatology, radiology, neurology, nephrology, ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat, periodontology, reconstructive surgery, faciomaxillary surgery, and urology.

Faith Hospital is a dynamic community hospital, serving the residents of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The Hospital, an 18-bed facility provides primary, secondary, and emergency care and is staffed by highly trained, experienced and qualified professional and support staff which includes physicians, nurses, support services, administrative and clerical personnel.

Little Cayman
Little Cayman Clinic
Residents and visitors to Little Cayman had improved medical facilities and increased service in 2003 with the relocation of the Clinic to a more spacious facility adjacent to the Little Cayman School. The new purpose built facility has a waiting area, a triage area, treatment room, a Doctors office, and a dental office. Clinics are conducted Monday through Friday and Cayman Brac physicians visit routinely. The resident nurse also makes home visits.
