Entry Requirements
IMMIGRATION:
PASSPORTS:
American citizens as of January 23rd, 2007 entering the Cayman Islands will require a valid passport, for more information on this visit:travel.state.gov/travel/passport
Canadian citizens Do Not Require passports, but must present proof of Citizenship. Proof of Citizenship include:
- Passport or Birth certificate with a raised seal & Photo Id (i.e. Driver's License)
- * Photocopies of Birth Certificates need to have the copy notarized by a Notary Republic.
All other Nationalities, including British, are required to have a valid passport to enter the Cayman Islands.
All those entering the Cayman Islands who require a passport should ensure that the passport is valid for six months after date of return.
VISAS
If you are American, British, Canadian, a citizen of another Commonwealth country (with the exception of Bangladesh, Gambia, India, Jamaica, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda) or a national of any of the following you will not require a Visa:
Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, China (peoples republic) citizens holding Hong Kong (SAR China) passports only, Chile, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Irish Republic, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Panama, Peru, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States of America & Venezuela.
All other countries not noted above should contact the nearest British Consulate or High Commission Office to inquire about entry requirements or receive applications for Visas. Entry is granted for up to six months. Resident aliens of the US who show a valid US Alien Registration Card (green card) may be permitted to enter and remain in the Cayman Islands for up to 30 days.
A transit passenger who is a national of any of the following countries is required to have a visa upon arrival in the Islands: Afghanistan, Liberia, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh, Belarus, Burma(Myanmar), Burundi, Cameroon, China (People's Republic of), Colombia, Congo Dem. Republic (Zaire), Ecuador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, India, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Liberia, Macedonia (F.Y.R. of), Moldova (Republic of), Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia & Montenegro, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Turkey, Turkish Rep. of Northern Cyprus, Uganda, Vietnam, Yugoslavia & Zimbabwe.
HOW TO OBTAIN A VISA
Persons requiring a visa for entry into or transit through the Cayman Islands must apply to the nearest British Embassy or Consulate that has a visa section. Note: nationals of Cuba and Honduras must apply to the British Embassy in Havana and the Cayman Islands Visa Office in La Ceiba respectively. Jamaican nationals living in Jamaica are required to apply at the Cayman Islands Visa Office on Dominica Drive, New Kingston.
A visitor is not permitted to take up or solicit employment while in the islands. A work permit must be applied for and obtained before arrival, either by the individual, if he is to be self employed, or by the employer with a post to fill.

A work permit entitles the holder and named dependants to live in the islands during the term of the license or specific employment. Dependants will not be allowed to work without their own permits.
Temporary Residency: any one thinking about residing in the islands should apply to the Chief Immigration Officer (Department of Immigration, PO Box 1098, Grand Cayman) for an initial residence permit. This permit will be granted for a 6-month period.
Permanent Residency: a person thinking about permanent residency may apply, after six months' initial residence, for permanent residential status and will be expected to invest substantially in property or otherwise in the islands; a minimum of US$180,000 is suggested. Grant of permanent residential status entitles the holder to enter and reside in the islands at will, provided he/she does not engage in gainful employment without approval. People of independent means are required to pay a one-time fee of CI$15,000 on grant of permanent residency.

Customs Duties
Import duties are levied on most items at rates of 5-20%. Visitors over 18 may bring in one litre of spirits, four litres of wine or one case (not exceeding eight litres) of beer, 200 cigarettes, 100 cigarillos, 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco duty free.
Taxation
There is no direct taxation in the Cayman Islands. There is no income tax, capitol gains tax, company or corporation tax, inheritance tax, or gift tax. There are no property taxes or rates, and no controls on foreign ownership of property or land. But there is a departure tax; CI$20 or US$25, which must be paid by all persons 12 years of age or over leaving the islands. This is normally built in to the price of your ticket.
