Dining
There is no shortage of fantastic dining options when eating out in the Cayman Islands. Choices abound, including delicious fare ranging from traditional Caymanian dishes such as stewed conch (pronounced 'conk') or jerk chicken with rice and beans to your favorite international flavor at the incredible variety of restaurants serving up dishes ranging from Greek to Thai, Mediterranean to Chinese, and Sushi to Nuevo Latino, to name a few. Of course, those with less adventurous taste will be happy to know that there is plenty of standard, American-style fare to be found as well, and even a few fast-food restaurants to keep you satisfied.
Take advantage of the diverse opportunities to dine on the waterfront; many venues offer open-air seating on patios and decks right on the ocean, while others have spectacular ocean-view dining in air-conditioned comfort. Be sure to ask about the daily specials - tropical libations offer sweet temptation, and locally caught fresh fish is often, if not always, available.
Dress for dinner ranges from casual to elegant, but never requires a tie. Very few establishments require a collared shirt and pants for gentlemen. Be sure to ask when making reservations to avoid disappointment. Reservations are generally not required, but highly recommended, especially in peak times and during high season. If you are traveling with a large group, always call ahead so that the restaurant can best accommodate you.
If you are looking for recommendations, ask your hotel concierge. Other hotel staff, dive boat staff, and residents you meet on the beach are also great sources of advice on where to eat.
