DOT, CITA, and Chamber plan interesting & fun activities for World Tourism Day in September.

The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (CIDOT), the Cayman Islands Tourism Association (CITA) and the Chamber of Commerce are planning plenty of activities in the run up to World Tourism Day, on Wednesday 27 September. Initiatives being proposed for discussion includes a Youth Video Competition: “Entrants are asked to share in 60-90 seconds ‘Why tourism matters to me and my family’. Entries will be judged by a panel based on an established set of criteria as well as viewer’s choice.” Entries to be posted on social media can serve to support engagement with CIDOT’s local platforms. Entries would be received prior to World Tourism Day with videos posted and viewer’s choice voting on World Tourism Day itself.

In addition, 15 to 20 CITA restaurants participate in a special menu to celebrate World Tourism Day and as a preview to Cayman Restaurant Month in October. Alongside this, there will also be a possible social campaign to highlight opportunities in industry.

World Tourism Day Explorer is going to be a week-long campaign to encourage residents to go and explore the Cayman Islands especially CITA member locations, Cayman Islands National Attractions Authority sites, including Cayman Turtle Conservation and Education Centre and others and will include incentives, offers, and discounts.

The Chamber will be launching the production of Tourism Matters, the first in a new series of award-winning educational videos by the Chamber about how Cayman’s economy works. Tourism Matters follows in the footsteps of the other videos in the series, Growth Matters and Financial Services Matters.
