HSM will provide expert legal advice on the question: Can I be personally liable as a shareholder, director or sole trader if my business fails as a result of COVID-19? This course is designed to provide legal guidance to businesses and individuals, which will assist them to better understand and establish the difference between business failure and loss of business as a result of a pandemic.

INSTRUCTORS: Adam Crane and Peter de Vere

Adam Crane is a Senior Associate at HSM. He specialises in the areas of commercial litigation, insolvency, restructuring and financial recovery matters. Adam has over 10 years of experience and joined HSM having worked with a top Canadian law firm where he was Partner and the Chair of the Financial Recovery and Insolvency Group. He holds leadership positions in various international insolvency organizations including being a committee member of the Small Practice Group Committee for INSOL, committee member for the Turnaround Management Association NextGen Communications Committee and the Special Projects Leader for the Commercial Fraud Committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute. Adam is a frequent speaker and writer on arears of interest which include recognition of cross-border proceedings, stakeholder communications in cross-border insolvency proceedings, and on cross-border asset recovery including procedures for locating/recovering evidence and assets.


Peter de Vere is the Head of Corporate and Commercial at HSM and is a member of their Insolvency team. Peter joined HSM in 2018 having previously worked for another top tier Cayman Islands firm for 10 years. His practice areas include asset finance, corporate finance and structured finance. He also has extensive knowledge of aircraft and vessel financing. Peter regularly advises on, entity formations, corporate restructuring, local business licensing and mergers and acquisitions.
