Employment & The Labour Act (Part 1): Understanding the Basics – 15 September 2022

This half day course will provide an in-depth overview of the major components of the Labour Act and will cover the employment contract, types of leave, hours of work, severance pay and termination.
Kerrie Cox and Hilary Brooks
Kerrie Cox is a Partner at HSM and is a highly experienced advocate and litigator in employment, commercial, general civil, estate and family law. Kerrie (a qualified mediator) practiced as a Barrister in the UK for 12 years. He was admitted as an attorney in the Cayman Islands in 2010 and spent two years with a local law firm before leaving the islands in 2012 to join a niche family practice in Gibraltar. In 2013, he left the practice to serve as Principal Crown Counsel in the British Virgin Islands and then returned to the Cayman Islands in 2015. Kerrie’s experience in the commercial sector has enabled him to develop a highly regarded reputation as one of the jurisdiction’s leading practitioners.
Hilary Brooks is an Associate at HSM and has been employed with the firm since 2016. Hilary handles employment related matters and also practices in the areas of property and finance.
Hilary studied Law at the University of Liverpool, graduating with honours in 2009. She then undertook the Professional Practice Course at the Cayman Islands Law School in 2010, where she achieved a commendation. She was called to the Cayman Islands Bar in 2012. Hilary has been a Notary Public in the Cayman Islands since 2008.
