Whether you are new to the workplace or have decades of experience, the importance of giving and receiving feedback in the workplace cannot be underestimated. When done correctly, delivery of feedback – both positive and constructive – can lead to greater psychological safety, better team performance and improved employee engagement and satisfaction.
Like all leadership skills, the art of giving and receiving feedback can be learned. This 4-hour workshop will teach you how to create an environment where feedback is not only expected, but welcomed, and teach you the skills of what to say and how to say it.
Lorna Murphy is a Personal and Business Coach and Learning & Development specialist with over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector. With a passion for human development, motivation and success, she has trained in Psychology, Personal and Business Coaching, NLP, Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy in an academic and practice career spanning more than two decades. Lorna sits on the Board of Directors for CIPCA – The Cayman Islands Professional Coaches Association.
An advocate for Mental Health awareness and the provision of services to support each person’s inner challenges, Lorna seeks to change the perceptions and reduce the stigmas surrounding mental illness.
Lorna has an innate passion for coaching and training, weaving together theories in neuroscience, psychology, coaching and her own diverse personal experience. She tailors each program to encourage others to find their unique purpose and relieve them of their perceived limitations.

The Government of the Cayman Islands has issued a Hurricane Alert for the Cayman Islands. A hurricane alert means that the Cayman Islands could begin experiencing tropical storm/hurricane conditions within the next 72hours. At 10am, the centre of Tropical Depression 9 was located near latitude 14.2 ° north and longitude 70.1° west. This puts it at 825 miles east-south-east of the Cayman Islands. The system is moving west northwest at near 14 miles per hour, with maximum sustained winds near 35 miles per hour. “The Cayman Islands Government has issued a Hurricane Alert based on the likelihood of rapid intensification of Tropical Depression Nine,” said Mr. Panton. “I encourage the Cayman Islands public to finalise your emergency plans and gather all necessary supplies as soon as possible. Plan to stay off of the roads from Sunday afternoon as weather conditions start to deteriorate.” During this phase of threat, the public is advised to do the following: Check emergency supplies and items for securing your home. Stock up on essential items and non-perishables Assess your home and make necessary repairs to roofs, etc. Remove overhanging limbs and fruit from trees. Decide whether you need to stay with friends or relatives or go to a shelter. Find out which shelter is closest to you and decide how you will get there if you need to. Persons with severe medical conditions should contact their physician to determine best course of action. Check that your generator is in good working order, and ensure you have oil and extra gasoline Make arrangements for your pets in case you have to go to a shelter. Fill vehicles with gasoline and, if necessary, withdraw some cash from the bank. Chamber President Elect and owner of the Cayman Spirits Company, Nelson Dilbert, believes in inclusion. “There are people in our society who may have different mental and/or physical abilities. It’s nice to see that we are able to offer a position in our company which can accommodate the skills that they have” he said. For two days each week, Matthew, a client of Sunrise Adult Training Centre works at the company, helps with the “Seven Fathoms Rum and Cola” production line. He helps to fill bottles for one of the most popular Cayman Spirits’ product. Mr. Dilbert first got in touch with Inclusion Cayman at a Rotary Club fundraising barbeque in support of Sunrise Training Centre. Inclusion Cayman is a local non-profit that is passionate about getting businesses like Mr. Nelson’s to include people with disabilities in the business community. “Suzette Stewart, Sunrise’s Vocational Programme Coordinator, reached out and asked if any of the companies present could help provide jobs for their clients.” Mr. Dilbert was happy to offer a position in his business and pleased to help. Mr. Dilbert is quick to point out that it is really a win-win situation. “We are enjoying having Matthew here working for us as much as he enjoys being here,” he said. Matthew is very good at concentrating on small details; making sure everything is exactly right, before he passes his finished work on to a coworker. Although he is really excellent at what he does, Mr. Dilbert plans to place Matthew in different positions within the company, developing his skills and growing his confidence. Mathew can be found greeting tour guests with tons of handshakes and smiles. “Mathew is proving to be a real asset to Cayman Spirits team,” Mr. Dilbert said. Monday, 19 September, 2022, has been declared a public holiday in honour of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II State Funeral. In accordance with Section 16 of the Labour Act (2021 Revision), Employers and Employees are reminded of the following – — Employees who are not required to work on a public holiday, must be paid the basic wage they would have normally received for working on that day, had it not been a public holiday; provided they work their SCHEDULED work day immediately before and after the public holiday; — Employees who are required to work on a public holiday must be paid double their normal rate of pay for hours ACTUALLY worked. Where that person works less than the full day that person shall, in addition, be paid at the normal rate for any hours by which the time actually worked falls short of that person’s normal working day. — Public holidays do not affect an employee’s vacation entitlement for the year. Earned vacation leave shall be above and beyond and shall not include any public holiday leave as provided for by section 16 of the Labour Act (2021 Revision). Dart recently announced new and enhanced employee leave benefits, which support families and provide flexibility in how paid time off is used. Pre-pandemic internal research highlighted benefits that employees hoped to see added to Dart’s already extensive benefits package, while post-pandemic realities made family, flexibility, and time off more important than ever. The Cayman Islands Parliament held a special meeting to pay tribute to Her Late Majesty The Queen at the House of Parliament, on 12 September 2022. Although the session is not a requirement of any Overseas Territories during the period of National Mourning, the meeting was called by the Speaker, Hon Dr. McKeeva Bush, JP who felt compelled to honour Her Late Majesty along with fellow Parliamentarians. The public was invited to attend as Queen Elizabeth II had been a symbol of constancy in the lives of Caymanians for the last seven decades. The Speaker opened with a heartfelt address to the large somber crowd saying, “We have all seen over the past days that her passing has caused great gloom to many who have known or met her. The grief is unbelievable, unbearable at this time but her passing also brings extraordinary solidarity across nations and we feel collectively a sense of loss and deep sadness. It is at this juncture that we more fully value what she represented and stood for. She has left a remarkable spirit of reconciliation and harmony that at this time is felt with particular poignancy.” The touching tribute was then followed by a number of passionate and touching homages including (and respectively) His Excellency the Governor Martyn Roper, and the Premier Hon G Wayne Panton, who also thoughtfully imparted words on behalf of the entire Cayman Islands; recorded for posterity. Since the tragic incident at Parker’s Raceway in Breakers on 27 August 2022, and given the subsequent questions that have been asked by our community, the Ministry of Health & Wellness has been working diligently to gather accurate and relevant information to be shared with the public. Here are our findings: While the word “emergency” is understood to mean a serious, unexpected, and at times life threatening situation, which can cover a range of physical and mental health ailments, the provision of “emergency services” speaks to a standard- made up of a specific set of services and complements- that a health care facility must meet in order to be approved to deliver. The Health Practice Commission, established under the Health Practice Act (2021 Revision), is tasked with, among other things, “the certification and inspection of health care facilities” (section 3.1(d)). The members of the Health Practice Commission are appointed by Cabinet and consist of the Chairpersons of the four health practice councils (Medical and Dental Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Pharmacy Council, and Council for Professions Allied with Medicine- all of whom are professionals in their respective fields), as well as one assignee each of the Attorney General’s Chambers and Director of Planning, two representatives from health care facilities, and the registrar. Each Council is tasked with the registration and licensing of practitioners within each group of professions. The Department of Health Regulatory Services (DHRS) supports the Health Practice Commission in its role as a regulatory body. As part of the certification process, DHRS receives applications from health care providers and uses those applications as the basis for its inspections based on the services the facility itself states it is able to provide. The DHRS inspector is deployed to the facilities at the time of recertification (one to three years) to ensure that the facilities meet the standards for each of the services it states on its application it is able to provide. Standards are set for a range of services individually, from radiology and oncology all the way through to emergency services. Based on the outcome of the inspection, DHRS inspectors will make a recommendation to the Health Practice Commission to approve or deny the individual services listed on the application by the health facility. The Health Practice Commission makes the final decision in line with stipulated health practice standards. In order to provide emergency services, a health care facility must not only meet the physical requirements for emergency facilities- ambulance bay, designated area with emergency beds, specialised equipment, etc- but they must also have the complements of experts, supporting staff, and supporting services (such as ambulances and trained EMTs and paramedics) that collectively determine the capacity and ability to deliver said emergency services 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Ambulances are registered directly to a health care facility, and as such are also subject to the licensing standards in terms of trained staff, equipment and maintenance under that facility’s application to DHRS. These health care facilities assume the cost associated with ambulance services (staffing, training, maintenance, fuel, etc). While there are other medical transportation services in Grand Cayman that can move patients to and from facilities, these are not licensed to provide the same level of service as the registered emergency services ambulances. The Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) is the only facility that has registered ambulances with the appropriately trained staff. 911 Emergency Services Dispatchers provide holistic coordination of emergency response, activating relevant agencies such as Law Enforcement, Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) based on the nature of the emergency. The EMS ambulance, registered under the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA), is the only entity that meets the licensing standards with approval to respond to medical emergencies and authorised to be dispatched by the 911 Centre. The Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) is the only health-care facility with licensed emergency vehicles equipped for response services, and as a result is currently the only deployment location in the event of a medical emergency. Staffing requirements for approval as an emergency services facility include, but are not limited to, two key components: personnel qualification and coverage. In order for a facility to be able to provide emergency services, medical personnel are required to have both specific qualifications as well as a minimum number of years of practice to ensure that they have both the knowledge and the experience necessary to deal with complex emergency cases. Furthermore, emergency services providers must ensure that staff qualified to provide emergency services are not only on-call, but physically present at the health care facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) is the only facility that meets the staffing requirements to be able to offer emergency services. The Medical and Dental Council List of Licensed Practitioners at 9 September 2022 lists 16 medical doctors with a specialty of “emergency physician” or “emergency medicine”. Of those 16, 13 are located at the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA), and the remaining three (3) are located at three (3) separate private sector health facilities. The Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) is the only facility on island that has met the standard as established by the Health Practice Commission to provide emergency services in the Cayman Islands. As such, it is the only facility that has been authorised by the Health Practice Commission to provide emergency services within the territory. Lastly, trauma- in particular severe trauma as a result of a motor vehicle accident- is a special circumstance that is the domain of 911 Emergency Services. Severe trauma is a specific type of emergency that can best be handled by a facility that is equipped and prepared for these types of emergencies. To date, the Health Practice Commission has not received any application from any private local facility to provide services for cases of severe trauma, and as such the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) remains the epicentre of Read more…
The Health Services Authority (HSA) is improving access to sustainable, high quality primary health care for more people across the Cayman Islands by expanding the CayHealth Programme. CayHealth, serves the most vulnerable persons in the community through a specialized benefit medical insurance. This expansion now includes all recipients identified as being eligible to receive such healthcare benefits. With the cost of healthcare and high-risk health care conditions common in this group, it is paramount that efficient, timely and cost-effective care is the foundation of the CayHealth programme. As such, improving clinical outcomes by improving access to care and wellbeing, is the hallmark of the CayHealth programme. The CayHealth programme is designed to ensure continuity of care by pairing individuals with an assigned general practitioner as their primary physician going forward. This provides the patient consistency in care when seeing their primary physician. Persons within the programme can access care at the district health centre in which they reside and will be assisted with any referrals they may need for specialist care. “Selecting a district health centre and a preferred general practitioner will facilitate more personalized care,” Director of Primary Health Care and Medical Officer of Health Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez said. “Having a personal physician who knows your complete medical history will provide consistency of care.” He added, “All recipients receiving specialized benefit medical insurance will receive personal correspondence from the HSA advising of the assigned physician assignment to a primary care physician (PCP) and further details on the programme; this process has already begun”. Clients residing in the Sister Islands will access care from any of the physicians at the Faith Hospital and assignment of a preferred general practitioner will be decided based on the physician from whom medical care is usually received. -END- Frequently Asked Questions What is CayHealth? A programme designed to provide access to a general practitioner who will be your primary care physician. Your primary care physician will team with you to improve your access to healthcare and coordinate any referrals you may need for added care. Who is eligible for this programme? The programme is offered to clients who are eligible for the specialized benefit medical insurance programme, provided they meet all the criteria. This group will have elite access to the now expanded CayHealth programme for specialized benefits medical insurance. Will CayHealth change my current medical benefits? CayHealth will not reduce your health benefits in any way. In fact, the programme will improve access to quality care. How will CayHealth change the way I get my medical care? Through CayHealth you will have access to your primary care physician in your district. Your primary care physician will monitor your health and healthcare needs and provide more personalized care. CayHealth will give patients the chance to participate in health education programmes, such as diabetes education so they can take charge of their health. Your primary care physician will determine whether your medical condition requires consultations with a specialist and will refer you accordingly. The specialist physician will consult with your primary care physician (your personal physician) on any follow-up care which may be necessary. How do I find my primary care physician? Staying with one physician means you will be able to build a strong relationship. This in turn allows your doctor to know and understand your healthcare needs better, ensuring that you receive the right care at the right time – securing better long–term health for you. Why is it best for me to stay with one physician? While we encourage you to stay with one physician, CayHealth is not meant to limit you to a single practitioner. Can I change my primary care physician? While we encourage you to stay with one physician, CayHealth is not meant to limit you to a single practitioner. All our physicians are qualified and skilled to provide you with quality health care, but if you want to change your primary care physician, you can discuss it with the nurse at the clinic or your doctor. If your primary care physician is unavailable at any time, you will be helped by another This physician will have access to your medical records, treatment plans and medications prescribed. How can I see a physician when one is not available at my district health centre? When you need immediate medical attention, go to any other health centre where a physician is present. In the event of a medical emergency, go to our 24-hour Accident and Emergency Unit at the Cayman Islands Hospital or Faith Hospital. Do I have to use a primary care physician from the district health centre in my distrct? Primary care physicians are placed in the district heath centres to provide easier access to healthcare services. We therefore encourage you to seek medical care at the health centre in your district. However, if it is convenient for you to seek care at another health centre, you may do so in consultation with the nurse in charge of the clinic. The important thing is to continue care with the same physician as much as possible. What about accessing women’s health services?
