HSA expands flu clinic to new location
With the start of the traditional flu season, the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority (HSA) will open its Flu Clinic on Tuesday December 1st, 2020. The clinic will be open Monday to Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm.
The dedicated Flu Clinic is located at the Cayman Islands Hospital in the area previously occupied by the Physiotherapy Department, providing more convenient access for patients. Persons can access the Flu Clinic by parking in the Seventh Day Adventist Church Parking Lot with easy access to the clinic left of the Accident & Emergency entrance. Signage on campus will direct patients to the Clinic.
All persons with flu symptoms are advised to first contact the 24 hour Flu Hotline to speak to a health professional about their symptoms prior to visiting the clinic. Contact 1-800-534-8600, 345-947-3077 or flu@hsa.ky.
“Although flu cases are currently low, opening the dedicated clinic allows patients with flu symptoms to be separate from other patients attending general clinics. It is important that we continue to implement ways to keep our vulnerable and elderly safe.” said Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez.
“We usually start to see the rise of flu cases in September, however with persons following COVID-19 safety protocols, wearing facemasks, practicing better hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, we are seeing lower numbers of flu cases so far this year,” Dr Williams-Rodriguez said. “The reduction of overseas travel is also a factor for the reduction of cases.”
The Health Services Authority has administered 4,000 doses of flu vaccines over the past four weeks. An additional 2,000 vaccinations have been ordered.
Flu symptoms may include:
• Fever
• Sore throat
• Cough
• Runny nose
• Muscle or body aches
• Chills
If you experience worsening symptoms such as:
• Sudden dizziness and confusion;
• Severe or persistent vomiting;
• Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen; or,
• Difficulty breathing call the Flu Hotline or 911.
Patients visiting the Flu Clinic can use the Seventh Day Adventist Church parking lot, just opposite A&E.
All persons are required to wear a facemask at all HSA locations.
