Indoor mask mandate is extended; Minister pledges to consult with the Chamber
Members of the Chamber Council met recently with the Hon. Sabrina Turner, MP, and Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Autilia Newton to discuss the extension of the indoor mask mandate. Dr. Newton expressed concern about the recent spike in positive cases and the economic impact that this was creating for Government and the business community. She felt that extending the indoor mask mandate and urging businesses to enforce it would reduce the spread and the persons in isolation and quarantine. The Minister and the Acting CMO promised to engage with the Chamber Council in May to discuss the further reduction of restrictions as the concern at present has shifted from health related matters related to serious illness to economic impact based on an increase in isolations. The Council thanked the Minister and Acting CMO for taking the time to seek the Chamber’s views on the restrictions and looked forward to further discussions in May.
